Greeter
Greeters welcome people to our church. Like ushers, greeters interact with the congregation so they need to provide leadership in exhibiting a Christian attitude. Also like ushers, greeters may also be the first person a visitor may meet, making it important for him or her to provide a good first impression to the visitor. A great greeter may make the difference between whether or not a visitor returns to Old Otterbein.
Greeters:
1. Welcome people to our church service and provide them bulletins.
2. Request visitors sign the guest book.
3. Provide general information about the church.
4. Help visitors arrange a tour with a volunteer guide, if a guide is available.
5. If unable to attend a service, the greeter should notify the Altar Guild Chair, and if able find a replacement greeter.
6. Each greeter should wear Greeter ribbons (adhesive onesnot pinsare in drawers) identifying themselves as a greeter.
Acolyte
Acolytes perform an important symbolic part of the church service bringing in and sending forth light.
Acolytes:
1. Wear robes.
2. Light alter candles at the beginning of the worship service, using the portable candle wick.
3. Extinguish the alter candles at the end of the service, symbolizing the carrying of the light of Christ out of the sanctuary and into the world
Usher
Ushers aid in making the service work smoothly. Because they interact with the congregation, they need to provide leadership in exhibiting a Christian attitude to the congregation. An usher may also be the first person a visitor may meet, making it important for him or her to provide a good first impression to the visitor. A great usher may make the difference between whether or not a visitor returns to Old Otterbein.
The Ushers:
1. Aid people in finding a seat, particularly if a person is handicapped.
2. Provide general information about the church.
3. Change hymn numbers at the altar to reflect the hymns being sung that day.
4. Ensure bathrooms have paper supplies. If needed, they turn on air-conditioning (switch inside mens room!) to 3-hr occupy or heat (switch to left as enter sanctuary).
5. Record the church service attendance (the number of people attending).
6. Help visitors arrange a tour with a volunteer guide, if a guide is available.
7. Address any unexpected concerns or disruptions that occur during the service, such as a ringing telephone.
8. Collect the offertory:
A. At the beginning of the offertory hymn, the ushers come forward and receive the collection plates from the minister.
B. The ushers pass the collection plates among the congregation to collect the offertory.
C. At the beginning of the doxology, the ushers come forward and present the plates to the minister.
D. At the end of the doxology, the ushers return to the back of the church.
9. If unable to attend a service, the usher should notify the Altar Guild Chair, and if able find a replacement usher.
10. Each usher should wear an Usher ribbon (adhesive onesnot pinsare in drawers) identifying themselves as an usher.
11. The ushers are responsible for tidying the sanctuary after the service, e.g. pick bulletins off the floor, replenish pew cards, restack the hymnals and pew bibles, place the cover over the piano, ensure the water tank does not need water.
12. Ensure pastor gets visitor cards from offering plate and return pastors sermon from pulpit; ensure financial secretary gets offering money at end of service.
13. Ensure usher or a Trustee member (or a member with a key) locks the sanctuary door after the last person departs for the Nelker.
Communion Steward

Communion Stewards:
1. Bring bread and grape juice before service and set up as needed
2. Clean up altar area after service
3. Help pastor reverently dispose of leftover elements
